Tales of the Time Lord: Season 31

Reflection

Introduction

It's been a long time since I wrote short stories. For the longest time I was working on getting them longer, more complex, more twists and turns, more characters, bigger, better, bolder. Slowly it happened, and the shorter stories faded away for the most part. Even a two part story takes a couple months to write at least and runs for 20-25 typed pages on my machine in my font. The 5 to 10 pages stories, the ones I did when I started writing, were history.

Last year, I was asked if I was interested in submitting a story to the Doctor Who Information Network's fan fiction magazine. I was a backup story writer and, ultimately, was not needed. For my help (and because I was fast and, according to the editor, good) I was offered a position in the next issue, which I accepted.

I attempted to write three very different short stories, letting my imagination drift a bit more than usual, trying to find something different for the Doctor and Julie to get wrapped up in. It was an interesting challenge; not only was I trying to do something a little different, but I had fewer words than normal to do it in. Normally, I can go on as long as I want, but this time I had restrictions, as well as someone else editing me.

After about a month, I had two stories and one that wasn't getting past the first few paragraphs that I'd given up on. Of the two I finished, both were good, but one seemed the better choice to send to the 'MythMakers' magazine. That story 'Knowing How It's Done..' (I hope I've remembered the title correctly, my memory fades in and out) was accepted, and that issue of 'MythMakers' is due to be released shortly. This story, 'Reflection', is the other story I completed. While 'Knowing..' takes place in the gap between Season 31 and 32, 'Reflection' is set just after 'Devastation' and is something of an epilogue to the story. Hopefully it is still an interesting read even if one hasn't read 'Devastation'. I wasn't willing to gamble that chance in a magazine, but on the web, sure, why not?

I am aware of the fact that some would like to see more text on this page. Consider this something of a text. If indeed this does attract interest, I may consider doing a few more short stories to add here, as a site only bonus. I seek to please, if you like this idea faithful reader, kindly let me know. I am not hard to find.
